In 1867 the company was founded in Tuttlingen, Germany. More than 150 years later, E.A. Mattes still produces superior leather for the aerospace, automotive and equestrian industries and enthusiasts. The philosophy behind all their lambskin products is the focus on enhancing the natural application of any products instead of forcing fashion trends.
-
Australian lambskins. The only source for the lambskins used in all their equestrian products for the past 40 years has been the Australian sheep industry. Only in our country are the contributing factors perfect for producing the best lambskins in the world, but then also only 3% of the total production is good enough for Mattes.
-
Equestrian heritage. Mattes became interested in the equestrian market in the mid-1980s and have since made their name synonymous with quality lambskin saddle pads, leg protectors and girth covers. Extensive ongoing research for product development is conducted in conjunction with professional riders, riding instructors, saddlers, the Deutsche Institut für Pferde-Osteopathie (German Equine Osteopathy Institute) in Dülmen as well as the University of Zurich's veterinary hospital.
-
Custom manufacturing. All of the Mattes products are available as standard items from reputable tack shops, but they also offer complete customisation of their equestrian products using a real-time, virtual configurator. This allows customers to choose their own colours, trim levels and embroidery. Perfect for clubs and teams.
